Calgary's Kettle Luncheon Marks Official Start to Campaign

(L to R) Darrel Janz, Mayor Naheed Nenshi and Capt. Pam Goodyear

On November 15th The Salvation Army Calgary hosted the annual Kettle Kick-off Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency. The luncheon is held to raise awareness of the Christmas Kettle Campaign, running from November 18th to December 24th.

CTV News Anchor Darrel Janz was our proud Emcee and did a fabulous job! Special guest Mayor Naheed Nenshi was present to officially give the first donation to the 2010 Kettle Campaign. Gayla Rogers, Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary, was the guest speaker, addressing hundreds of Salvation Army supporters. Tara Shannon, a Grade 8 student who has been volunteering since she 10 years old, stood up and spoke about the importance of volunteering and how she influences her friends and family to get involved.

Following the luncheon, people in attendance were encouraged to help generate funds for the Campaign by taking one of the tabletop kettles back to their place of business. A great attendance for another successful luncheon to kick off the Campaign, with a goal of $1 million, to bring food, clothing and much needed dignity to vulnerable children and families in the community.
