Kunitz Shoes, an Edmonton based family run business, is once again supporting The Salvation Army by offering a $20 discount on a pair of brand new shoes from their store, in return for a donation of used, serviceable footwear. Both Kunitz Shoes store locations are collecting these donations as of November 14, and their goal is to raise over 2,000 pairs of shoes. This is the second year for this shoe drive. Last year the stores were able to collect 1,200 pairs of shoes over their campaign. The shoes were still being dropped off after the event was completed and another 800 pairs were donated. There are many people who are in need of appropriate winter footwear in Edmonton, not just the homeless population. To be able to provide a decent pair of shoes to someone in need is important to their wellbeing, as well as their dignity. The Salvation Army is in need of all winter shoes, but the need is greatest for work boots and children's winter boots. To get involved, visit kunitzshoes.ca/soles-for-souls or drop in to one of their Edmonton store locations. UPDATE: 2000 pairs of shoes were collected during the Christmas season between the two stores in Edmonton! The Salvation Army would like to thank everyone at Kunitz Shoes for everything they have done for families in need this Christmas.
