Santa Shuffle Celebrates 20th Anniversary in Edmonton

What started as a small fundraiser for The Salvation Army’s Edmonton food bank in 1990, has since spread to 37 communities across Canada. At the first Santa Shuffle, participants were asked to bring a food donation and try and beat Santa across the finish line. This year, close to 10,000 braved all kinds of weather to participate in the Santa Shuffle, which was also celebrating its 10th anniversary nationally. 2010 also marked another milestone for the Santa Shuffle, as All Weather Windows came on board as a National Presenting Sponsor. Staff from across the country participated in the Santa Shuffle, raising pledges and awareness for the event. “All Weather Windows, Canada's largest independent window and door maker, is committed to community involvement. CEO Gord Wiebe believes the partnership with The Salvation Army is an excellent illustration of the positive values that All Weather Windows deems important as this is an opportunity to give back to the community and assist those in need. “This is the first year of a three year partnership with The Salvation Army and we are proud to be the National Sponsor of the Santa Shuffle and Elf Walk – a uniquely Canadian event.” All Weather Windows exceeded their goal of $100,000, when Richard Scott, President of All Weather Windows presented Graham Moore, Territorial Public Relations & Development Director, with a cheque for $125,000. “Our goal was to raise $100,000 in the first year and with the support of our employees, customers, partners and friends have donated money and time to this worthwhile cause, explained Wiebe. “All Weather Windows is focused on excellence and customer satisfaction and exceeding the goal set for The Salvation Army is an accomplishment. The work of The Salvation Army improves the lives of individuals, one at a time. Our company values are closely aligned to this mission of excellent in service.” The Salvation Army is thrilled with their support. “It is inspiring to see the spirit of Christmas and the generosity of Canadians such as those from All Weather Windows,” said Graham Moore. “Proceeds from this event will help restore hope and dignity to women and children in crisis, feed and provide shelter for the homeless and help make Christmas a possibility for those in need.” |
