On May 15 2011, Salvation Army Thrift Stores across Canada participated in a one day sale to raise funds to help send kinds to summer camp. As part of The Salvation Army’s Dignity Project Thrift Stores held a 50% off sale, with proceeds from that day going towards costs for children to attend a week long summer camp.
The Edmonton Clareview Salvation Army Thrift Store raised $2030.11 in support of this program, which will allow kinds from the Edmonton area to attend Pine Lake Camp, just outside of Red Deer.
During the summer, Pine Lake Camp focuses on offering high-quality, action-packed camp experiences for children and youth. Our purpose is to serve the needs of campers; physical, social and spiritual. For the physical needs, our aim is to help campers develop good health habits in cleanliness, proper rest, balanced diet, exercise, and care of the body. To meet social needs the camp provides an opportunity for each camper to contribute to and receive from a group living experience. The aim is to help campers make their own right decisions, stimulate creativity and foster independence.
